What is LEED for homes?

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, is an internationally recognized green building certification system developed by the USGBC, which provides third-party verification that a building or community was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performances across all the metrics that matter most;

Improved indoor Environmental quality

Stewardship of resources 

Sensitivity to their Impact

Platinum = Best

Gold = Outstanding

Silver = Gold

Certified = Good

 

Location

Located close to the community resources with a city bus stop provided for residents.

 

Energy Efficiency

Energy - Star appliances such as refrigerators and dishwashers. Energy - saving light devices, fixtures and bulbs in all units and the community building saving both energy and utility costs.

 

Durability

Masonry brick and solid core insulated siding are being used to promote durability and reduce utility and maintenance costs.

 

Density

5.2 units per care to provide for an open space environment with adjacent 10 acre green space with a walking path, fire pit, gazebo, and wildlife refuge promoting good health and relaxation.

 

Water Conservation

Shyville Senior Living uses high efficiency fixtures and fittings on faucets, showers and toilets to conserve water. In addition, the development provides a rainwater harvesting system and garden area for resident use.

 

Building Material

Building materials used are from local or regional sources. The materials are environmentally friendly, consisting of low VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUND (VOC's) finishes (eliminating the "new paint" and "new carpet" smells), green label carpets and pads, from formaldehyde-free composite woods.
